QuestionI just looked out my window and noticed hundreds of flying insects, so I went out and caught one, and identified it as a hatched termite; my question is, if this is a problem with our house or is it just a common hatch from a nearby woods that happens to be encompassing out house....thank you
AnswerNick,
As you probably know termite colonies release large numbers of winged termites (so called "reproductives") at certain times of the year. It is impossible to tell where the colony is unless you see them actually emerging. Since you live in Florida you should be doing regular inspections and possibly baiting for termites anyway so this particular reproductive flight should not make any difference. Take a look at this page http://www.livingwithbugs.com/termite.html and this page http://www.livingwithbugs.com/termite_baits.html if you need to set up a baiting program. Post a follow up if you have questions.
