QuestionI found a black widow on my outside door handle today and was wondering if there could be a nest of them in or around my house.
AnswerMorgan,
Black widow spiders don't live in nests per se, at least not in the sense of a colony of multiple spiders. Black widows are loners that build a solitary web, usually in an out-of-the-way place. A door handle would be an unusual place to find a black widow spider - are you sure about the id? Bites from black widows are very rare because the spider is so secretive. So to answer your question - no, there's no nest of black widows anywhere around but if you live in an area where they occur you might find one from time to time.
