Codling moth management model

Question
I have been implementing IPM in my farm and now I would like to introduce for the first time the codling moth management model. I heard about BIOFIX and honestly to say I do not have enough information about this model. Please if you can help me to understand the model (calculating the temperatures and interpreting the model).
Thank you very much.
Ari

Answer
Ari,

I'm not an expert in this particular model. However the BIOFIX model is generally used to more accurately time pesticide treatments. It relies on the observation that developmental stages in the life of pests like codling moth are temperature dependent so can be accurately timed by tracking daily temperature. Usually one measures the high and low temperature each day from a certain date and calculates a running total for "degree-day". Once a particular degree-day total is reached (as determined through research and published in tables) you can proceed with the treatment. Usually degree-days are tracked by someone in Cooperative Extension or local university researchers. If you tell me where you are (city/sate) I may be able to help you locate someone local that can help. If you are outside the US you'll need to contact a nearby university or ag advisor.
