Money Tree Problems

Question

MPlant 1
Hi, My trees have done very well for the last 4 years.
Some leaves are turning yellow and falling off. The real problem is it looks like something is eating them.  I have examined the plant and can't find anything. It had fungus gnats a few months ago, but I caught it in the beginning and used gnatrol.  Take a look at the pic.I have a few more if you want to see them
Thanks so much for your help
Betty

Answer
Most insects that infect the leaves of plants are extremely small, some so much so that they are not visible to the human eye without magnification.

I would suggest spraying the plant with insecticidal soap. You can purchase this product commercially through your local nursery or you can make your own by mixing 3 tsp. of non-concentrated liquid soap to one gallon of water. Transfer the mixture to a misting bottle and spray the plants liberally. Repeat the application every 4 days for 2 weeks.

If the infestation is severe and does not clear up within a few weeks, you will need to use a more harsh insecticide. Two excellent organic alternatives include pyrethrum and rotenone. Both are derivatives from plants and are non-toxic to humans, pets, and the environment. You can purchase this at your local garden center or on-line through Planet Natural or Gardens Alive.

I hope this information helps. Good luck, and have a great weekend.

Regards,

Mike
