QuestionWe have found what appear to be extra long mouse droppings coming from above our alcove/doorway. I have dealt with mice before and this scat is almost twice as long as the usual mouse droppings. Further, it is coming from a very unlikely spot, dropping from above to the ground, almost as if it were being pushed between the brick of the house and the fascia board that is flush up against it. I can't imagine a mouse being able to squeeze in a space 1/16 or less, much less leaning out it's space. Are their insects that leave scat like this?
AnswerWithout more information, couldn't say for sure. Mice climb and shrews can too as do rats.
Insects can't be ruled out.
We have a list of necessary questions that should be answered in order to id droppings at http://icwdm.org I would suggest that you consult the scat id pages.
