HIBISCUS PEST THAT BITE

Question
THIS IS THE 2ND YEAR THAT I HAVE PURCHASED HIBISCUS FLOWERS FROM SAMS CLUB AND ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR, AFTER THE FLOWERS STARTED TO BLOOM, WE HAVE GOTTEN A FLYING PEST IN OWN HOUSE,THATS NON VISIBLE, BUT THEY BITE LIKE LITTLE NEDDLES, AND YOU CAN FEEL THEM FLYING AROUND YOUR LEG,(THE SAME WAY AS IF YOU HAD A FAN BLOWING ON THE HAIRS ON YOUR LEG). WHEN THE WINTER COMES, THE BUGS ARE GONE. (HELP)!!!!!!!

Answer
Carl,

These could be a tiny plant-feeding insect called thrips. See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/thrips.html for an enlarged picture of a thrips (the name is always spelled with the "s", one thrips, many thrips). Thrips will bite but the bites are harmless, just annoying. Thrips do not infest homes so if you remove the source flowers they should go away.

Post a follow up if you have questions.
