QuestionThe tree bloomed very well. At the late stage of blooming, the blomming area turned brown. I removed one area of tent caterpillars. I sprayed something from the co - op. It looks like leaves are trying to form. I had the same problem last year. the difference: The caterpillars came a little earlier this year. They attacked last year after some apples formed. The tree produced no edible apples last year. What can I do now?
AnswerHomer,
Healthy trees usually are not harmed by moderate tent caterpillar defoliation. The problem with fruit set last year may have been a lack or pollination or an unhealthy tree for other reasons. However, here's an article about treating these insects http://www.livingwithbugs.com/tent_cat.html that may be useful. Post a follow up if you have questions.
