QuestionIs there an insect or worm I could place in my indoor potted plants that would eat or kill fungus gnat larvae? I would rather do this than use chemicals, but if my idea won't work, what chemicals do you recommend?
AnswerDave,
As a matter of fact there is a tiny worm (beneficial nematode) that infects fungus gnat larvae in the soil. It is available commercially (see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/fungus_gnat.html for a our source) and is very effective. It is widely used in commercial mushroom production and greenhouses. Another material called "Gnatrol" is a bacteria (Bacillus thurengiensis) also is available (google "gnatrol"). Post a follow up if you have questions.
