QuestionMike
I have a number of evergreen that always attracts aphids. I have several questions. First is there a chemical that I can put into the soil around the base of the evergreen that will kill Aphids.
Second question, I was thinking about using lady bugs but I dont see many, especially when I need them. What would consider the best plant to be to attract tons of lady bugs -
thanks
Ken
AnswerKen, aphids can be controlled oranically with either a garlic spray or with an insecticidal soap. You can also spread rotenone dust around the surface of the plant. These products can be purchased at most garden centers or on-line through companies that specialize in organic products, such as Planet Natural or Gardens Alive. In the garden, I plant garlic liberally throughout the beds to deter aphids. They hate the smell of garlic and will usually avoid plants that are anywhere in the proximity. Attached are the links to the two companies mentioned above.

In regard to lady bugs, they love dill and cilantro. You can also purchase lady bug houses on-line that include a lure that will attract them. Attached is one of many websites that sell the lady bug houses and lures.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever provide assistance.
