QuestionThrough no man actions, there was a crash sound in the woods adjacent to our driveway. I noticed the swarming noise from more than 50 feet away. I couldn't see where, then I looked up about 35' in the air 5 to 10 thousand smarm. Do I need to worry that they may find a new home in or around my house and or vehicles? There were several stragglers flying low that appeared to be yellow jackets.
AnswerCarl,
These sound more like honey bees than yellowjacket wasps. Honey bee swarms can be much larger and noisier than wasps. Usually honey bee swarms are pretty harmless but you may want to contact a local beekeeper who I'm sure will be more than happy to collect this swarm for you. Contact your county Extension office to a find a beekeeper in your area.
