QuestionHi Dan,
I work in the garden shop,of major home improvement company. The number one question is..What plants do Deer NOT eat. I know lantana, salvia, sage, mexican heather, esperanza, etc. but is there a LIST OF THESE PLANTS that I could use to help the customer,or even copy to hand out to customers?? Common names is helpful.
AnswerHi Linda,
I don't have a list. Try doing a web search on...
"deer resistant plants"
I've seen many lists from state wildlife departments, etc.
My own experience is that deer will eat any plant. Especially plants that are cared for by using fertilizer and extra watering. The extra nutrition and moisture attracts them. Mountain mint is one of the most offensive plants to them, yet I've seen them repeatedly bite off and spit out plant tops! They were cultivated plants, so they attracted the deer to try them. They don't even like to walk through mountain mint, and they'd likely never touch any wild plants.
I've never grown plants dictated by their offense to deer or any pest. I figure out a way to convince them what they are not welcome to eat them. That works very well, and I grow what interests me without concern about what the pests like or don't. I make and sell a very good solution. My web site.

I don't know of anything better. No ugly fences needed. No contamination.
