QUESTION: I have a bird making a nest under the barrel tiles on our roof. The noise is making it hard to get a good nights sleep. How can we get it to go away?

ANSWER: The best solution is to secure the holes so he can't make a nest there. Granted it is the most expensive solution, but it is the only one that will absolutely work!

I trust the bird is NOT a federally protected bird. If it is, things just got more complicated. Only three birds are not federally protected, pigeons, house sparrows, and starlings.

QUESTION:  I think is is a pigeon or house sparrow. I have seen other nests around our property,is it unrealistic to think the bird will move on after the nesting season is over?

That is a big difference in bird size. Pigeons can weigh almost a pound, house sparrows just a few ounces.

Yes, birds will move on but the problem is house sparrows and pigeons raise broods several times a year. It can be up to five for one species if you live in warm climates.

The short answer is, this problem will continue to grow as more and more birds become familiar and bonded to your house.
