QuestionI just moved into a house in Dallas/Fort Worth area, and found a 6"X6" hole under some bushes at the base of my house. The house is build on concrete slab, and I've never seen the animal, but I filled the hole in twice, and the next day it is dug out again. I can see a few claw marks as well. The ground is moist, but clay-like. No other disturbance has been observed. How do I find out what it is? And how do I prevent it from living there? I am in a rural area with horses/goats across the street, and large wooded areas nearby.
Thanks!
AnswerHi Kim,
Armadillo leave a tail streak and groundhog do not. Likely one or the other. Sounds like groundhog. Put mint in the hole and cover it until the critter has abandoned it and then fill and cover with a wire mesh. Groundhog hate mint. If it is armadillo, I make electronic deterrents to keep them away. You would see the lawn dug up if it were armadillo. My website.
