QuestionI have seen a very large male bobcat, a good 50 lbs., roaming around near my house. I live in a fairly rural area and have a hog wire fence - 6 ft. - around my large with two small Dachshunds (15 lbs.). I am fearful the cat will jump the fence after my dogs. I work and am gone during the day. Would an electric wire across the top of my fence help? Do you have any other suggestions?
AnswerHi Marcia,
Your pets are definitely at risk. Bobcat are great climbers. Even if you put a wire on top it might get on your roof and jump down. It needs a way out and is probably studying that. You could get a 6 sided cage for your pets, but a bobcat might attack anytime. You being home or not wouldn't likely matter. If the pets are out and the bobcat is hungry and has found a way in.... the bad will happen. I make electronic deterrents that keep bobcat away. That's the best solution that I know of other than keeping the pets indoors or in a cage.
