QuestionHi, hope you can help me with this. I discovered a swarm of termites on my
kitchen floor today, which would seem to indicate an infestation of the house,
although I can't tell how severe. Do you think I can handle this with a product
like Bayer Advanced Termite, or is this a job for an exterminator at several
thousand dollars? Thanks!
AnswerBayer Advanced Termite is more of a preventive tool and I think the label says if an active coloney is present get a professional to treat. The problem lays in locating the coloney --if the house is a crawl space house means going under the hous and looking fo signs of activity. If the house is built on a slab it is dificult to locate the coloney. The usual way to treat an active coloney is using liquids in high rates of water. These insecticides are pumped into the gound, in trenches around the footing and even into the slab.
I would get the house inspected and find out where the swarm is coming from --maybe not in the house but nearby. I would get several treatment companies to look and give you a price for treatment and then select the one that is best and gives warranties of service and prevention of future infestation.
Here is a good web link that will help with the decision.
