  I have 25 L.S. trees ,15 year old,30'tall,VA. very dry this year,have had bag worms on 4 of the trees,and spray w/
Ortho MAX, of course I can't tell if it kills worm because cacoon never fall off.We pull all cacoon that we can reach. Never saw that B.W. did any damage to trees, just look BAD

   Now this summer, very dry in VA.,I have 2 tree that have B.W. that have turned brown and look dead from top to about 3' down.

    What is going on,what can I do to help ???

The insecticide did kill the caterpillar in the bag but the bags may continue hanging on the tree for some time. I recommend calling the Va. Department of Forestry and asking one of their Forester to come out and take a look. This is a free service. Their web link to the county contact is;
