QuestionI was weeding in one of my flower gardens and when I disturbed leaves at the base of a rose bush, bunches of small (tiny) red bugs began to scatter. I am assuming these are red velvet mites. Are they harmful to my roses? Is there a nature friendly way to get rid of them if they are harmful?
AnswerLauri, they will harm your roses over time if left unattended.
Two organic controls are pyrethrum and/or rotenone. Both are plant derivatives and are safe to humans, but highly toxic to pests. You can purchase these products at your local nursery or through one of the attached links.
