QuestionWe live in a rural (OK so we DID move into their area) and recently the coyotes have become such a nighttime problem. We are in the middle of a milk far of 350 acres on one side and fattening farm on one and neighbors the other sides, walking our pets at night is becoming a problem (she is a 90 lb chicken) is there anything that can keep them farther away from me? Rather than the 100ft or so as they are moving in quickly. Thanks
AnswerThat's a BIG chicken! Is that like the one in the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper"? The hard hat farmer was walking a chicken taller than himself on a leash.
If you are being tracked by coyote while walking, all I can suggest is don't walk at night or carry a weapon. A handgun... or at least a starter pistol AND a can of spray bear repellent... a super strength pepper spray. If you get cornered, try hissing like a cat. Seriously. Same for bear. Save it for emergencies only or they might get wise.
If you want to keep coyote out of a general stationary area, I make audio deterrents that protects around 5 acres each. And guess what one of the sounds are that I use? Yep a hiss. They work very well. Here is the website. you can ask further here or there.

Be careful! Coyote can get dangerous and being bold towards people is a bad sign.
