Skunk?!  Wow, I hadn't considered that.  I have never seen any skunks in the area, and my neighbors say they haven't either. Do skunks climb fences?  My yard is fenced

But, what do you mean 'when the food is gone'?
I would think that there would always be insects ... or are these type of insects merely seasonal?

Skunks don't climb fences but rare is the fence that a skunk can't sqeeze under. They would only need about a 3-4 inch diameter. (People never compesate for the fur aka. Big hair).

Sure insects may at some level always be present. SEasonality is also present. The issue would be quantity. At a certain point it isn't worth their effort any more. It would be like finding coins in the beach. At some point, you stop looking, even though there may be a few more left.
