chipmonks in garden

Question
I have a family of chipmonks invading my garden they are eating my plants and tearing up my bird feeders can you tell me how to get rid of them? I also have tons of voles I got some of these gummy worm like things from the grounds keeper at the golf course I work at (for moles) do you know how to use them I know you put them in the tunnels but do you have to put the whole one in or do you break them up in peices

Answer
You aren't going to like this but your bird feeder is likely the cause of your problem. Remember, nature believes in supply side economics. Where there is a supply there will be a demand to meet it. Think of it as if I handed out 5 dollars to every person who came out to my house every day, how many people would show up by the end of the week? Free stuff will do that.

Now as for the situation at hand.  Fortunately population reduction for these creatures is pretty easy. Visit http://icwdm.org and click on solutions then mammals  visit the pages on voles and chipmunks. Read the literature. There is a lot of it. Trapping is probably your best and safest route provided legal in your state. Remember that translocation of wildlife is often cruel and in some states illegal.

Talpirid is not for voles. Never use poisons in a manner inconsistent with the label. It is a violation of federal and state law.
