Pests in my 3rd floor.

Question
Thanks, I guess you may be right but the only thing I can think of is maybe the roofer did not put enough nails on my ridge vent and maybe there is a section they can squeeze in from.  I can't go up there myself though since I have a 10/12 pitch roof and it's so high up there.  The soffits are all tight with vinyl with built in vents not the flimsy type.
My new question is, if they are indeed bats is there any repellant for them.  I saw a plug in ultra sonic sound maker to get rid of mice, will this work for bats also?

Hello Stephen,  I have something up in my 3rd floor, I have a staircase going up but I rarely go up there.  I have never seen them, all I see is their droppings which are always in the same spot and are the size of rice and black at a rate of one or two a day.  My home is nearly new and everything is tight, it's all brick with vinyl overhangs. The largest hole is for the vents at about 0.125 inch in diameter. I have no leaks in the roofing. I am thinking that they are Leeches because outside my front door I have found the same droppings and know that they came from Leeches because I have killed many in the area. Only thing, why would a leech want to live in a dry & hot 3rd floor attic area and it doesn't make sense. BTW I have put traps up there just in case it is a mouse but the trap is never touched so I do not believe it is a mouse and it is not Bats either. This is really puzzling me since I never see anything up there.

Sounds like bat droppings to me.   I would seriously question how tight your home is. Animal damage controllers frequently find new homes to be actually quite loose. It is not unusual to find gaps all over a newly built building.

There is a key on droppings on our web site at http://icwdm.org   Go to the solutions section and then the animal damage id.  There will be tons of info there on 1. how to inspect your home and 2. how to identify the damage.

Answer
Ultrasonic devices are awesome at doing one thing, repelling money from your wallet.  You didn't say if you visited the site to look at the feces identification information. it is critical to confirm that the problem is in fact bats.

If you do have bats, the only certain way to get rid of them is to exclude them by installing one way doors over the opennings and then sealing all other potential opennings.
You can also hire a Wildlife control Operator (NOT A PEST CONTROLLER) Pest controllers handle bugs and are rarely competetent in wildlife damage control. Information on how to hire a professional is also listed at the http://icwdm.org site.
