QuestionI live in the UK. We are having problems with squirrels at he moment as they are damaging our plants. We have used a so-called squirrel repellent which has a frequency range from 17 kHz to 40 kHz. However, it just doesn't seem to work. In fact they seem to spend time playing next to it!
Can you advise me of any humane way of keeping them at bay? I do not want to use a trap of any kind.
Thankyou
AnswerWe could have saved you the money for the so called ultrasonic repellent. Most mammals can't even hear in the ultrasonic range anyway.
Since you are anti-trapping, you next two options are 1. a taste repellent (provided you don't plan on eating the plants). It will have to be reapplied after rain. Consult local hardware store.
Option 2. Is to box fence the plants with hardware cloth so they can't gain access. Secure the cloth to the ground, preferably, a few inches below the ground surface. 1/2" weave should be sufficient.
