QuestionI live in the city and birds (primarily blackbirds) have bee eating my flowers (perennials) in my flowerboxes. I've heard there are some flowers that birds won't eat, do you know of any? If not, do the hot pepper wax sprays work in instances like this?
AnswerRight off I am not aware of any list of blackbird avoided plants, except for potatoes and some other agricultural plants. Could you let me know what plants in particular the blackbirds are attacking?

Hot pepper won't work as birds tend not to have the smelling ability of mammals. However, spraying a waxy substance on the plants may work as it may impede the ease at which they can get the food. Be sure to follow the label of any repellents. I am not aware of the repellent you are referring to. I would like to look at the label before saying anything more about it.
Netting is an excellent way to protect your plants during this feeding period. Certain types of scare devices may also work but only for the short term, so don't spend too much on them or you will be sorely disappointed.
