QuestionHi,
I am not 100% sure this in your area; but maybe you can put me in the right direction.
I have a small garden overhere in Belgium; with a number of fruit shrubs (small berries).
Every year I need to mess around with very unpractical nets, trough leaves are growing so that it becomes difficult to remove the nets for harvesting; you have to remove the nets for partial harvesting; birds get stuck in the nets; even a cat (neigbour's) already did.
There must be either better kinds of nets available or other ways to avoid birds eating my small fruit without killing them ?
AnswerIt sounds like your net weave size is too large and/or the netting too fine. Birds won't get caught in nets they can see and when the mesh is too find from them to get their bodies caught in.
Netting is certainly the way you need to go for a permanent solution unless you have the money to build a green house around the plants.
Need to know what color of net, its size, and type you are using. Also info about the birds being caught would also be advisable. We will try to help you determine a better net to cause fewer caught birds.
As for the cat, cats shouldn't be allowed to roam free in the first place. Their harm to nature is truly amazing. Second, the cat was probably going after a bird.
Photos would help too. They can be sent to
