QuestionWe have a tremendous problem with rabbits eating all of our flowers and greens as sooon as they sprout. I have tried every deterrent on the market, as well as some proposed by others, (mothballs, pepper, etc.) I have also tried using traps, which have been great at catching possums and skunks, but no rabbits! I will try anything (including poisoning) to get rid of these pests.
Your help is much appreciated.
AnswerThe easiest way to keep rabbits out of a garden or away from plants is to put a fence them. The fence only needs to be made 3 feet high and then bent outward on the ground to prevent digging. Wrapping trees can also work. Go up at least three feet. The fence can even be made of chicken wire. But I would suggest using stronger material if you have woodchucks around. Visit http://wildlifedamage.unl.edu click on wildlife publications in the left column and then on the new page scroll down for rabbits. There will be a lot of helpful research based materials at that site.
