QuestionI live in West Palm Beach FL. I love to garden. I recently noticed that I have seen big sand mounds (2 specifically) which I thought were ant mounds. When I looked deeper I found large holes dug into the dirt appx 10 inch diameter burrowed down. I know for a fact we have had opposums, raccoons, and voles here in the neighborhood. This is a 2 year old neighborhood surrounded by perserve. I do not back up to the perserve but am across the street on the lake. Is there an animal living in this hole? Should I cover it with dirt again? Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Lori
AnswerA hole that large sounds like woodchuck or possibly armadillo.
You can check to see if an animal is living there by simply corking the hole with some rolled up newspaper (when it isn't raining) or you can place thin sticks over the hole which will be pushed aside as something moves in or out. can you send me some photos?
