Wax Leaf overwatering

Question
My Question is a simple one, Can you kill Wax Leaf plants by overwatering? all sites I visited said they need very little to no watering except one site that said the opposite so now I am asking the Expert .....

Thank you,

Rick

Answer
Dear Rick, There are actually two plants I know of that might be called Wax Leaf. One is the Wax Leaf Ligustrum which is a shrub so I don't think you mean that one.  The other is the Hoya which is a house plant with thick leaves, slow growing, that is often grown in a hanging basket because it grows vine-like and has flowers that grow together in a cluster.  This is the plant I think you mean, so if I am wrong, please write back and let me know.  Anyway, yes, you can kill Hoya by overwatering.  It truly prefers to dry out completely between watering, then watered thoroughly and any remaining water in the bottom saucer discarded.  They should grow beautifully in Nevada as the climate is perfect for them.  They are somewhat difficult to get started in commercial greenhouses as it is so easy to overwater them.  I hope this information helps.  Good luck.  Melissa
