QuestionA few months ago, I began watering my mother in law more heavily, once a week. Until then I noted no problems. Now I notice that it appears the leaves have large ulcers in them, round, brown.
My plants in the living (mother in law in bedroom) have pests. So I don't know if the plant is suffering from too much water or pests that somehow got in there.
Help.
AnswerDear Mari-Ann, If I were you I would assume that since the other plants have pests, then it is likely that your mother-in-law tongue has gotten them too, and I would spray everything all at once, probably with a mixture of NEEM and horticultural oil to get rid of crawling insects and scale. Otherwise, when you treat the ones in the living room, some will migrate to the bedroom. Now that being said, the actual problem with your mother-in-law is probably overwatering. These plants and most plants are very sensitive to being overwatered. I would water the plant once a week, and when you water, water thoroughly, then remove all the excess water from the tray underneath. Water left in plant saucers is one of the main causes of plant death. Trim off any bad spots on the plant, and the NEEM that you spray on it will also help with any developing fungal infection. By the way, the mother-in-law will bloom once it has gotten old enough if you let the pot get rootbound. Just neglect this plant and it will start perking up. Good luck, Melissa
