fireblight on a loquot tree

Question
what chemicals should i use to treat and cure my aliquot tree

Answer
Dear Jerry, Alas, the loquat is in the rose family and all members of the rose family may be susceptible to fire blight, a bacterial infection.  Fire blight is most often seen on pear trees, but in the last few years it has been seen on red tip photinia, loquats, and other rose family members.  Unfortunately when you see the burnt branch appearance on the tree, the only thing you can do is cut out those branches.  Remove any dead areas from the tree, then begin spraying with a product called Fertilome Fire Blight Spray, whose active ingredient is streptomycin sulfate.  Be sure to completely remove the dead limbs from the area - cleanup is important!  I would spray every week or two for several months to control the problem.  One good rule of thumb for fire blight is to avoid fertilizing, because the faster growth produced by fertilizing is especially sensitive to fire blight.  This disease has become very serious in the past few years, and I have seen huge plantings ruined by the effects.  Stay diligent with this disease, continue spraying, make sure that all dead areas are removed and hopefully you will be able to save the loquat.  I wish you good luck, loquats are beautiful trees with tasty fruit, and I am sorry your tree was infected.  Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.  Melissa
