Questioni have just planted a niagera grape vine, i live near the coast and my plant seems to be suffering from sodium exposure is there any way too help combat this problem short of shifting , thank you trevor
AnswerDear Trevor, It can be a challenge growing plants near the coast. The big question would be whether your irrigation water has a high saline content or not. It probably is high in saline as is your soil. The best thing to do in this environment is to water VERY VERY deeply when you do water and then not water again until the plants are pretty wilted. By VERY VERY deeply, I mean to thoroughly saturate the area around the plant and under the plant, not just the top 6 inches. The ground should be soggy. This will help to drain the salt residue away from the grape. Then don't water again until absolutely necessary. If possible try to save up rain water to use. If the plant is in a pot, again, water excessively, then allow to dry out. You should notice results fairly soon. Good luck, Melissa
