Question
last years planting ci
I have planted about 80 cider apple tres over 4 years. The early ones are fine. Last year (3) ihad about 5 trees that did not survive. The leaves just curled up and the tree died. I replace the trees with new (18 months spikes) in July (our winter in souther hemisphere. I now have several of the new tress with the same problemas well as a few from last year that were healthy then but this year seem to be afflicted too. I have not sprayed anything. It doesnt seem to be powdery mildew or scab so I am lost. Leaves start OK then curl up and drop off and tree dies. please see pics. Appreciate any help you can provide. I live in Melbourne and this year all trees have had plenty of water and not too hot (as yet).
Many thanks Andrew
AnswerHi Andrew... Scab, cider apple rust and powdery mildew, etc are the types of fungus that can infect the tree. There are specific pesticides available to deal with them. It would be best to find organic or natural alternative to deal with them, you don't want your apple to taste like pesticide! I would check out Atomic Grow which is organic and excellent for fungus and insects alike. It raises the brix in the tree and therefore disease is corrected. kathy
