Question
desert rose
Hi,
My desert rose bloomed recently. The first flower was
fine but the second one was distorted. The petals are curled
up and browning(see att.image) I've checked the flowers but
did not find any insects. This is not the first time the
distortion has occured.Any advice?
AnswerDear Alfredo, I actually did some research for this question. Desert rose are beautiful plants and one of my favorites. In the absence of any bugs on your plant, the most likely reason for poor flowering of a desert rose is not enough sun, or possibly being too cold. Since you live on the equator, and this plant is native to the equator, I don't think cold is a factor. Make sure the plant is in full sun or close to full sun, and avoid letting the plant get too wet, and the flower problem should straighten out. Don't fertilize too heavily, and make sure that the plant has good drainage. Occasionally a flower can just turn out distorted at times on any plant, and the rest of the flowers will be fine. I hope this information helps. Happy gardening, and you have a beautiful collection of plants. Melissa
