Fuchsia Help

Question

Fuchsia Leaf
Hi Ms Melissa,

There are some greyish patches/discolorations on my
fuchsia leave.Though I tried to trim away the affected parts
and refrain from wetting the leaves, the condition does not
seem to improve. Is it fungal infection? I'm currently using
fungicide on the plant.

Answer
Dear Alfredo, Your problem does seem to be fungal, but there are several things you can do to alleviate the problem.  One thing that I noticed was that in both pictures your leaves do appear to be wet, so the first thing I would suggest is watering in the morning using a direct pour method, like a watering can or cup, as opposed to watering with a hose.  Also, this time of year with cooler weather, many plants that may be exposed to fungus will get fungal spots easier because of increased moisture in the air.  Be sure that the plant doesn't sit in water.  Remove any excess water in under trays to avoid having the plant oversoaked.  Be sure at this time to remove ALL infected leaves, because once a plant has fungus on a leaf, it will easily spread to other leaves and the individual leaf will not get better.  Fuchsias are usually fertilized often, perhaps even twice a month, but be sure to do it lightly, and I might fertilize somewhat less often at this time of year.  I don't know if your plant is indoor or outside, but if it's inside be sure to give it a good deal of light; outside it will prefer to be somewhat shaded but with bright light on it.  Actually, the news is not all that bad, because the affected leaves appear to be large, mature leaves, and not all over the plant.  Otherwise, the fuchsia looks quite healthy and beautiful, so for the most part, your growing techniques seem to be great.  I'm actually envious, because I think you are probably better at fuchsias than I am.  Let me know if you have any more problems, or if this doesn't help, but you have caught this in the early stages, so I'm betting on your success.  Good luck.  Melissa
