QuestionWe have repeatedly planted sky pencils in the same spot and all have died. We planted 2 more about 2 weeks ago and have kept them watered. However, the plants towards the bottom have a grayish look to them like they are dying or have a fungus. Can you tell me what I need to do to save these plants. The soil is a sandy type soil. We have other sky pencils planted in the same area that are doing fine and have been planted for several years. We don't know if the plants have contacted a fungus, or if there is something wrong with the soil that inables us to have luck getting sky pencils to live in this spot. Thanks.
AnswerJan:
Difficult to say w/o seeing your plant. There may be a soil environment related issue rather than a bono-fide disease. Things like soil moisture can be a factor. You may wish to consider a soil test also. These can be done through your local county Agricultural Extension office in the county that you live in. The office should be listed in the county govt. section and is located in the county seat/courthouse building.
Here is a web site I found that may help some.

You can also contact your local garden center/nursery for their suggestions.
