Question
KOREAN DOGWOOD
SHORTLY AFTER THE TREE BLOOMS MANY OF THE LEAVES TURN BROWN AT THEIR TIPS. THE BROWN PROGRESSES UP THE LEAF AS THE SUMMER PROGRESSES. THE TREE FLOWERS BUT NOT PROFUSELY. NEW GROWTH DOES NOT TURN BROWN.
AnswerAlfred:
The dogwood is typically a shallow rooted tree, thus it can be sensitive to dry soil conditions. Browning of the tips and edges of the leaves throughout the tree is an indication that the tree has gone through or is going through a period of dry/hot/and windy conditions. If it gets a lot of sun or has been dry where you live, then it may necessitate supplemental waterings. Mulching around the tree is useful to conserve water in the soil. No deeper than 3 inches and pull it back a few inches away from the main trunk.
