Ornamental Plum disease

Question
I have an ornamental Plum tree that has developed numerous areas of gelatinous globs that drip onto the ground from the branches. Almost 2/3 of the tree branches are affected. The leaves are still looking good and this spring it produced large quantities of small plums.I have photos but at present can't attach them.

Answer
Wilma:
These "globs" are probably plant sap that oozes from the tree. It looks like a clear to amber colored resinous material that gets firm to the touch. This process is a self defense mechanism when the tree is wounded some how. Often it may be an insect puncture. The area beneath this ooze would need to be examine to get a better idea as to the nature of the wound. If it is an insect, check in with your local garden center for a potential insecticide that can be used.

Steve
