QuestionQUESTION: Here in Sedona, Arizona, we found what we believe are gall's on a tree (Holly Tree?) and are trying to identify the insect.
Can I send picture somewhere?.
ANSWER: Craig:
This web site has the option to attach an image. Be sure to review your image on your computer first---to be sure it is in focus. Take a few shots and pick the best. Try to get close to your subject and if you can either lay a common object ( for size comparison) beside your subject OR tell me something about the size.
Let me know if you strike out with attaching an image to this site.

Sedona Galls
QUESTION: Picture attached...thank you...Craig
AnswerCraig:
UPDATE 08/17/2010
After consulting with a couple of my "bug" colleagues from NC and TN this morning, both agree that these galls are called either a Cynipid wasp gall or also an oak marble gall. It is caused by a very tiny wasp as I mentioned in my previous message. Inside the gall is a single larva of this wasp that matures and exits the gall. There are literally thousands of insect galls on plants. These galls are harmless to the trees that they are found on.
Hope this helps to clear up your inquiry.
P.S. By the way, I have a good friend and my very first boss that lives in Cottonwood,AZ.
Cheers
