QuestionHello,
My apricot tree is nearly dead and I've seen several borers
on it. Though I can't save the tree at this point, I'm
wondering if there is something I should do about the borers
to keep them from moving to another tree in the
neighborhood. Do they affect pear and cherry trees?
Thank you,
Beth
AnswerBeth:
A couple of things to consider. Removing and disposing of the infested tree. After the tree has been cut down, it should be removed from the site and preferably burned (is allowed in the community or landfill). Neighboring trees can be trunk sprayed with an insecticide to prevent borer attack. Spraying would need to be done periodically to keep a layer of protection present. Check in with your garden center or nursery for suggestions of materials, based on the insect in question.
