My beloved sweet peas

Question
I live in Victoria BC and my sweet peas and garden peas have turned white and are dying.  Is this a fungus.  The flowers just came out and my clients and I love the scent and now the plant is dying.  Seems to have aphids on them too.  We also have Garry Oak tree on the property.  I have heard they give off a sap.  Please Help  thanks so much Sharon Lee

Answer
Hi:
There is a fungus disease called powdery mildew that causes white "fuzzy" patches or blotches to occur on the leaves. It can attack many plants.  It is best to get an accurate identification first.  If you are unsure, please send me a closeup photo of some affected leaves. Be sure to review the image on your computer first--- to be sure it is in focus before sending.

If you are not too good with digital pictures- like me, you can carry some leaves/pods to your local garden center/nursery to see if they can identify the problem.

Regards
Steve
