balcony problems

Question

basil
hi,
do you by any chance know this could be, it's affecting my balcony plants, it started on basil, and spread out to tomato and paprika...thanks a lot. greetings from Croatia

Answer
Ivana:

This may be evidence of an insect called a leaf miner. It feeds in between the upper and lower epidermis of the leaf. Imagine a peanut butter sandwich.  This insect eats the peanut butter, but does not eat the bread slices!  This is my guess.

The leaves will probably need to be examined with some magnification to confirm. You may consider showing these to your local garden center or nursery personnel.

This could be a disease, but unlikely since so many unrelated plants are involved. Another remote possibility--have you sprayed anything on all of these plants or nearby that may have caused some injury?  Any household cleaners etc?

This business is like being a detective.

Thank you for your question and your greetings. You are my first from Croatia.

Regards
Steve
