QuestionQUESTION: I live in Ft Worth, TX and I have a crepe myrtle tree that is approximately 24 yrs old. The bark on the tree has developed some holes in the bark anywhere from 1" to 5 "s. What could be causing this? Ed

No problem with not sending the images. In my mind, the only thing that I know of that makes holes in woody shrubs and trees rather than boring insects is a sapsucker (type of woodpecker). These holes are usually in some orderly arrangement- like in straight rows or columns. They are usually about 1/4 inches in diameter. Sometimes I even see them in a single row that goes almost all the way around a tree or woody stem.
