QuestionQUESTION: I have noticed a white hazy substance on three pine trees in our yard. The trees are about 40 feet tall and the white haze is consistent from about 15 feet upwards but skips each branch area. I could take and send pictures if it helps. It does not look like Blister Rust based upon pictures I have seen.
ANSWER: Jeff:
A photo would indeed be nice. Try to get close if possible and review your image on your computer first- to be sure it is in focus before sending.
Does the tree seem to be affected by this substance and how long do you think this stuff has been present on the bark?
Thanks
Steve

QUESTION: Thanks Steve, I have attached a photo. We just moved to the house so I am unsure how long it has been there. I just noticed it.
AnswerJeff:
Thanks for your photo. I do not recognize this as being a disease or insect issue. Since you are new to this situation, I would suggest monitoring the overall condition and appearance of the tree canopy and stems. If the situation changes, suggest that you contact your local county agricultural Extension office and arrange for a "house call" to see the tree "in person". If you need help locating a telephone number, let me know your county and state name and I can check a reference here and hopefully provide you with a number just in case you need it.
