QuestionLate April this year, i planted a baby weeping willow tree. I check it everyday and water it often. Lately, I've been noticing at the tips of the leafs, they're getting black. What does that mean? Also some of the leaves are curling in, is that normal? Thank you so much for your time.

AnswerHaley:
If most or all of the leaves are doing this, then I suspect not a bona fide infectious disease, but merely an unfavorable root/soil environment. These plants like a good source of moisture in the soil, but be careful not to over do it. Wet feet for an extended period is not too good on a newly planted tree. Typically young trees are water in well then left to sit a while, just to water to keep soil moist but not overly wet. Just make sure the soil is moist, but not overly wet.
