QuestionHello,
We have a very old fruitless mulberry tree that has been healthy. This summer I have noticed that on one side of the tree a fair number of leaves on the lower branches are turning dark brown and the leaves are curling up. I have also noticed that these leaves are much smaller than the other leaves that appear healthy. Is this a sign of disease?
AnswerRitamarie:
This does not sound like a disease that I am familiar with. If the leaves are discolored and distorted, but not dead, there may be a possibility that maybe some type of chemical injury (from a yard or landscape spray). If you have a yard service company that may have sprayed something, you might check with them. Otherwise, I'd just watch these leaves to see if it progresses. Take a look at the lower portions of the trunk and look for any loose or damaged bark.
Regards
Steve
