QuestionWe have three large 4ft diameter rosemary bushes that are about 10 years old. This year in Los Angeles County, San Gabriel Valley, the tops are being covered with white webs daily. We have been using strong stream water hosing them down daily; however, by morning, the webs are returning. It seems like light brown moths fly out about the size of peas to dimes; we don't know if they are causing the webs or not? When we finish hosing off they knock down and fly right back. Water is not phasing them. Could these be causing the webs? Or what should we be looking for? What do we use now? We use these to cook with and we do not like to use pesticides unless we have to.

Use "Google Images" on your computer and take a look at photos of "Fall Webworm", These insects make a web on the ends of the branches. These critters eat leaves, usually at night. The web makes it difficult to get chemicals (insecticides) to them. There is a product called DIPEL that is a biological material made from a bacterial that is effective for many catepillar type insects. Check it out at your nursery.
