weeping Queen Ann palm

Question
Hi there, we have 2 18 year old palms here in California's northern central valley. In April we trimmed many brown fronds and have had new spears and seed pods recently. Also recently both palms have started slowly dripping a thin line of liquid from the crown. There is no smell and is not sticky, it seems to be absorbed into the bark. Is there something we should be doing? Are these majestic trees in trouble?
Thanks for your help!

Answer
Elizabeth:

This liquid may be an exudate from a wound or other opening in the bark.  If the trees are healthy otherwise, suggest monitoring the condition.  If concern is still there, you may wish to contact your local county Agricultural Extension Service.  There is one in each county and will have a horticulturist that may be able to make a "house call" and observe the tree first hand.

Regards,

Steve
