QuestionMy burning bush's branches are splitting. The oddest thing. The leaves are also droopy. Has gotten plenty of water. What should I do?
AnswerNancy:
This is odd for this plant. If the bark is splitting lengthwise on these branches this can be due to sunburn that occurs during cold weather. One side of the branch or trunk is exposed to the sun during cold temperatures. If the leaves are droopy on those split branches only, then selective pruning to remove is recommended. The splits can be entry points for disease organisms.
Splits in the bark or if the branch is splitting as if broken isn't due to any diseases I am aware of. I would think about something bending them to the point of breakage or sheer weight.
