Question
arborvitae
we have many arborvitae lining our property (up to 40 years old in maturity). lately they have started turning brown - and we've noticed the stems have started "splitting open" - kind of a bursting at the seams deal.
Disease? Under watered? Over watered? need to be trimmed? Other?
We live in Mpls , MN.
Best & thanks!
Alison
AnswerAlison:
I suspect that this is an insect injury of sorts. This isn't a disease. If feasible, it could be pruned out, but may be more trouble than it's worth. Just keep this plant watered adequate. They are quite care free. Many of these insects are cyclic and do not pose a significant overall health issue to the plant.
