Question
Green Bug
Hi Steve, I emailed you yesterday about our locust tree that sheds the entire season. You asked me to send a photo of the bug that I see hanging around, though not sure if this is what's causing so many leaves to drop every day. Again, this has been going on for years without seeming to be detrimental to the tree. It's not dying, but it sure is messy. I've attached the bug photo you asked for. Do you think it's the bug doing the tree damage? Or do you think it's another issue, ie lack of sufficient watering. Thanks so much for your help.
AnswerHi Debbie:
I showed your photo to my next door neighbor and unfortunately he wasn't able to give us a positive ID since the image was a bit "fuzzy". You can try again if you wish. Because of the size, you may need to use a top end camera to get very close and magnify. You may also consider collecting a few of these in a jar and carrying them by your local garden center/nursery for them to look at. It would be best to get a positive ID first- if you want to consider treating.
As I mentioned, water could be an issue, so check the soil to be sure it isn't too dry.
Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
Steve
