QuestionTree is 15ft height, trunk about 20" plus 30 to 35 years old.
This year more blooms than ever. Bees were all around. Thousands plus of green fruit. About 2 week ago they began to drop.About maybe half have fallen off, but there are still many on the tree. First time I have ever seen this. Tree is in lot of shade from neighbors yards and is growing or bending toward the South. Seems other wise healthy. We did have an extreme hard winter in this area. Any thoughts. Normal??? Thanks
AnswerMarlene:
Even though these plants are quite cold hardy, a fairly sudden drop in temperatures may damage tender parts like flowers, buds, and twigs. This could indeed be a possible cause. Suggest also looking the plant over for any obvious areas of loose or damaged bark on the main stems and trunk and also any damage to the roots. If you don't see anything obvious, the plant will probably recover just fine.
